Wafik Abdou, M.D.

Wafik Abdou, M.D., is an independent anesthesiologist in Bakersfield. Dr. Abdou currently is the medical director for Bahamas Surgery Center. Dr. Abdou formerly served as the Chief of Anesthesiology for Mercy Hospital from 1993-2001. Dr. Abdou is a Graduate of USC Keck School of Medicine, and has been practicing in Bakersfield since 1992. Dr. Abdou is married with twin boys, and is a former multiple U.S. national champion bridge player.

Stephanie Bouey, Esq.

Stephanie Bouey, ESQ is an associate attorney with the firm’s healthcare and corporate transactional departments. She earned her Juris Doctor from University of Texas School of Law in 2011 where she was the staff editor of the Texas Journal of Civil Liberties and Civil Rights. Bouey was admitted to the California State Bar in January of 2012. She holds a B.A. degree in both political science and global economics. Prior to joining KDG, Bouey practiced healthcare and transactional law in Northern California at Bouey & Black, LLP.

Michael T. Bowers

Michael T. Bowers works as senior field representative in Senator Andy Vidak’s Bakersfield district office.

Michael most recently worked as a senior field representative for Congressman David Valadao (R-Hanford), where he managed the Bakersfield district office and worked with the legislative staff in Washington D.C. on complex federal issues related to the oil and gas industry.
He attended Bakersfield High School and Texas Southern University in Houston.

Michael Bowers is very active in the community, serving as a member of Kern County’s Stop the Violence Committee, the American Cancer Society’s Capital Campaign Committee and is a board member of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Bakersfield Life magazine recently named Michael one of Bakersfield’s top “20 Under 40” leaders and he is featured in the publication’s July 2014 issue.

Daniel H. Chang, M.D.

Daniel H. Chang, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist who came to Bakersfield to join his brother, Dr. Joe Chang at Empire Eye and Laser Center in Bakersfield, California. Dr. Daniel Chang graduated with honors from the California Institute of Technology. He then received his medical and ophthalmology training from two of the most prestigious programs in the Southeast: Duke University, where he performed groundbreaking laser vision correction research; and Emory University, where he earned the title of Chief Resident in Ophthalmology. Dr. Chang has authored numerous articles and publications on refractive surgery and advanced intraocular lenses. He regularly lectures at eye meetings from the local through the international level; and he trains and advises other surgeons and physicians on laser vision correction.

Alessandro A. Castellarin, M.D.

Dr. Castellarin graduated first in his class from the University of Verona School of Medicine in Verona, Italy. Following his ophthalmology training, he completed an ophthalmology residency summa cum laude and then became an instructor of ophthalmology at the Verona School of Medicine. In addition to working in a clinical practice, Dr. Castellarin was a primary investigator in the Verona Diabetes Study.

After several years of research and teaching in Italy, Dr. Castellarin moved to the United States where he completed a general surgery internship at St. Barnabas Medical Center. Then, during an additional ophthalmology residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark , New Jersey, Dr. Castellarin was chosen to be chief resident. He was also presented with the Alfonse Cinotti Award in recognition of his academic and professional excellence as an ophthalmology resident. Dr. Castellarin received his vitreoretinal fellowship training at Emory University with pioneer surgeon, Dr. Thomas Aaberg.

Dr. Castellarin has recently been nationally recognized as the top retina fellow. He was presented with the prestigious Ronald M. Michels Fellowship Award for his contributions to vitreoretinal research and surgery. He was also honored with a National Eye Institute Travel Grant during his work at Emory University. His research interests include diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and retinal pigment epithelium transplantation. Dr. Castellarin has also been involved in several national multicenter clinical trials and results of his work have been published in highly acclaimed journals such as Ophthalmology, Retina, the American Journal of Ophthalmology, the British Journal of Ophthalmology and The Lancet. Dr. Castellarin is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Vin T. Dang, O.D.

Born in Paris, France, Dr. Dang grew up in the suburbs of Paris. He moved to the United States at the age of 16. Dr. Dang earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from University of California San Diego, and went on to receive his doctorate in Optometry at the Southern California College of Optometry. During optometry school, Dr. Dang participated in a research project at the State University of New York, where they determine what factors affected a person’s ability to focus. Dr. Dang has extensive experience in the field of Optometry as both an optometrist and optician.

Dilsher S. Dhoot, M.D.

Dr. Dilsher S. Dhoot was raised in California and received his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to complete his medical degree at Oregon Health Science University in Portland, Oregon. Dr Dhoot remained in Portland for his residency training in ophthalmology at the renowned Casey Eye Institute. After completing his residency, Dr. Dhoot pursued fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. The Cleveland Clinic is a global leader in medical innovation and care and is consistently ranked as one of the top hospitals in the world. While at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Dhoot worked closely with Drs. Daniel F. Martin and Peter K. Kaiser both of whom are considered among the world’s leading experts in vitreoretinal surgery and research.

Dr. Dhoot has been honored with several awards during his education. He received the prestigious OHSU Medical Student Research Award. During his residency, he was selected as resident of the year for his graduating class. Dr. Dhoot has presented his research at national and international conferences. He has also published numerous book chapters and research articles in several journals including the British Journal of Ophthalmology, Cornea, Journal of American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers & Imaging.

Dr. Dhoot has been active in clinical research for many years. Recently, he has been an investigator in clinical research trials for the treatment of age related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Dhoot is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists.

Joseph Trovato

Born and raised right here in Bakersfield, Joe graduated from Garces Memorial High School and received his bachelor’s degree from St Mary’s College of California.

He began his professional career in 1995 when he went to work for Americair selling medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. After three years of learning the real world of business in the field, in 1999 he joined the family business of financial planning and wealth management. After a dozen years working with another firm, in 2012 he ventured out on his own to launch the new Trovato Wealth Management (TWM) office, which is headquartered here in Bakersfield. In less than one year, TWM has become recognized as one of the leading financial planning and asset management firms in Kern County.

As an avid outdoor enthusiast Joe has served on the Board of Directors of California Water Fowl, Ducks Unlimited and the Tulare Water Basin Association. Furthermore he volunteers his time to coach youth baseball and volleyball. Joe and his family also support a variety of non-profits in our community including: Relay for Life, Kern County Sherriff’s Foundation, Love Bakersfield, Boys & Girls Club, Field of Dreams, Optimal Hospice, JJ’s Legacy and others.
